Lees Hill CE Primary School Curriculum

Children are taught in two classes- Reception and key stage 1 (KS1) and key stage 2 (KS2).

A very favourable pupil/ adult ratio provides scope for much individual attention, paired and small group activities appropriate to their learning need. Excellent relations between staff ensure there is a smooth and progressive link in the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, as well as through each key stage.

Classrooms provide an inviting and stimulating learning environment for our children. Good, clear and attractive displays act as a learning resource and both encourage discussion and act as a stimulus for further activities. Displays are also used to celebrate good work.  A well stocked library in each class and internet access allows children to research topics in a variety of ways. In addition planned visits, visitors and involvement of outside agencies are utilised to enhance the curriculum further.

Curriculum

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum requirements. Subject leaders closely monitor progression through the key stages. Working through a series of carefully planned, well balanced topics gives the opportunity for every child to succeed and develop their strengths, capabilities and their knowledge. Topics have a subject focus with cross curricular links to increase relevance and depth of understanding.  Maths and English are taught separately to ensure progression and skills learnt are applied to other subjects.

Teaching methods vary, appropriate to the curricular activity and the learning style of the children. Assessment is an integral part of the planning process and is ongoing throughout the school year.  Rigorous monitoring and assessment ensures progress of all pupils is tracked and support or extension activities are provided accordingly.

We encourage all children to reach their full potential across the curriculum, regardless of age, sex, race or ability by aiming to develop positive attitudes and promoting enjoyment and fascination of every subject through interesting, stimulating and varied tasks.
